During Liz Lindstrom's seventeenth year, her parents visited Florence, Italy. Her mother and father, portrait artist Bart Lindstrom brought home a print of a beautiful woman, drawn with warm and cool colors on paper textured by age. From this beautiful print and with the encouragement of her father to find a look all her own, Lindstrom began a six year journey to perfect the mix media portrait. The result of miles of paper and dozens of faces is a style that is pure, timeless, and powerful. Without a full color pallet, Lindstrom finds her subject in tone and line - making a portrait that captures modern simplicity. Lindstrom strives for each drawing to be as ageless as that Florentine drawing she fell in love with as a young woman. By choosing to commission a Charcoal & Conte' with Watercolor Wash you are investing in a piece of art that will become a treasured heirloom.

Lindstrom begins her procedure for the portrait commission by talking with the client and getting an idea of the individual's personality and character. She then uses her camera to record various poses and expressions.
Her goal is to capture a moment, one that will show the inner person through the portrait. She also talks with the family members about the subject, learning as much as she can about the individual.
Returning to the studio Lindstrom compiles several compositions from the images, working to bring together her vision and the view of the client.
Lindstrom creates an oil portrait of distinction by blending together inspiration from the thick, juicy paint of Joaquin Sorolla, the storytelling mastery of Norman Rockwell, and the fluid color of the Impressionists. Weaving that inspiration together with her strong sense of anatomy and ability to capture her subject's features melds fact and fiction through the idealistic way she sees us all.
Lindstrom begins the portrait process by getting to know the client's preferences for color, texture, and mood with their future painting in mind.
"I adore working with my clients to find what elements of style and expression will create the perfect portrait for their family or company. I welcome commissions where a client comes to me with a vision, then working together to combine my skill and viewpoint with their desire, we find a direction for the portrait. The result is a painting that is intensely personal and yet still rings true as one of my works. This sharing of ideas to create art of beloved people is why I so adore portraiture and why I plan to work in the field all my life."

Charcoals are the most traditional portrait medium Liz Lindstrom uses to convey her subjects. Among the countless charcoal drawings throughout the centuries, Lindstrom puts her own signature look into each and every portrait. Her hand is seen in every line, which makes you feel connected to the subject and the artist. Lindstroms way of using of light and shadow, and combining line and soft edges, creates a charcoal portrait that stands out as both unique and timeless.

A portrait created with Conte' Pastel offers the softest version of Liz Lindstrom's work. The subtle blush color is both classic and strikingly modern. Many clients choose Conte' for its quiet feel while appreciating the strong color impact it makes in any room.
A Conte' drawing is traditionally created using Conte' crayon, but Lindstrom uses a pastel pencil in the same traditional color. Using a pastel makes a soft portrait that conveys any age with dignified calm.
